“Wet or fine”
“In Brabant, everything is done by bike. To high school ten kilometers away, with kilos of books on your back, the meadows frozen, your fingers too. To the foam party in the village, constant tugging at the too-short skirt you picked out, retiring home soaking wet and shivering from the cold. To the school camp in some Belgian village, after which—despite four days with zero hours of sleep—you still had to bike those fifty kilometers back. To the part-time job in the middle of nowhere, drinking your first after work beers, only to wipe out on the driveway of your parents’ house. Everything I loved and hated about my youth had to do with cycling. I love biking, and I hate biking”.
