Houdoe

“When I think of Brabant, I immediately think of that unique sense of conviviality – that warm feeling of togetherness that is so typical of Brabant. These moments often end with a cheerful ‘Houdoe hè!’ – a Brabant farewell that usually means something like ‘see you!’ and ‘take care!’. The word originated as an abbreviation of the expression “Houd u (zelf) goed”, which literally translates as "keep yourself well.". So when someone says “houdoe”, they are in fact wishing you all the very best as they say goodbye”.
