"Helmond, my home (mijn ‘thuis’) is the city I grew up in; surrounded by urban sites but also nature, and ugly parts as well as beautiful ones. It’s the place I feel the most safe, and the most myself. It’s where my family is, and most of my friends and people I love and admire. It’s where my home is, my two black cats and all my plants. It’s the place I work in and from as an illustrator and it’s the place I long for when I’m far away from it. It’s a place full of nostalgia but also holds so many new surprises; it’s like leafing through a diary and being able to read and see all the stories you’ve already experienced, while also feeling so much freedom in all the blank pages left".
